HAMID ABDOLLAHI - Ear Surgery in SHREWSBURY, NJ

In New Jersey, HAMID ABDOLLAHI, M.D. performs Ear Pinning, a type of cosmetic surgery, which is used to set prominent ears closer to the head.
Ear Pinning is also known as Otoplasty or Ear Setback surgery. Doctor ABDOLLAHI performs this procedure most often on patients whose ears are prominent, over protruding, cupped or ill defined. A majority of patients for this surgery are children who have been ridiculed at school because of their ears, and adults who did undergo this surgery as children.
The typical Ear Pinning patient in New Jersey is at least four years of age and in overall good health. Most Ear Pinning patients range in age from four to fourteen years old; however, many adults have this procedure done as well.
Ear Pinning surgery can have a dramatic effect for the patient on both their outward appearance and inner psyche. Very often these patients, especially children, have lived through ridicule, teasing, and bullying because of their ears. The new appearance provided by this procedure allows patients to have a renewed sense of self, higher self esteem, and new found self confidence.
This procedure is very straight forward. Results will vary a bit and it is a good idea to always have realistic expectations. There are a few complications which are rare but do include blood clots in the ears and possible infection of the cartilage, which can cause scar tissue.
Ear Pinning surgery in New Jersey is usually done on an outpatient basis. General anesthesia is normally used for children, while local anesthesia, combined with a sedative, is used for adults. During the procedure, HAMID ABDOLLAHI, M.D. will make an incision behind the ear and a small portion of skin and/or fat will be removed. Doctor ABDOLLAHI then reshapes the cartilage to correct the look and position of the ear. Sutures are used to support the cartilage and close the incision. This normally heals into a very faint scar. The entire procedure usually takes two to three hours to complete.
After the surgery the ears are bandaged with a head band type dressing for about a week. Any mild postoperative discomfort is not unusual and is controlled with pain medication. It usually takes about two weeks for the ears to look “normal” and any contact sports should be avoided for at least a month. During this time it is also important to keep the incision site out of the sun. Doctor ABDOLLAHI will provide detailed instructions regarding these restrictions.
While most cosmetic procedures are considered elective by insurance companies and therefore are not covered, there are instances when Ear Pinning surgery could be considered medically necessary. Several of these conditions are Lop ear, Cupped ear, or Shell ear, and those patients who were born without ears or lost them through injury. Many of these New Jersey patients find that their insurance will pay for this surgery. Normally, in New Jersey Ear Pinning surgery costs range from $3,000 to $5,000 depending on factors such as anesthesia, hospital use, and other factors. Any questions patients have about their medical condition Doctor ABDOLLAHI would be happy to address during the consultation. Questions regarding patients’ medical coverage should be directed to their insurance provider.
