Dr. JONATHAN CRISS performs facial liposuction, which is the removal of excess facial fat by suction using special surgical equipment, in Florida. This technique is also frequently referred to as facial liposculpture.
Although considered to be "minimally invasive", liposuction is a surgical technique to remove excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle.
The typical liposuction patient in Florida is over 18 years of age, has excess fat deposits not responding to diet and exercise, and would like to change the contours and proportions of their face. The most frequently treated areas are the jowls and the area under the chin.
Liposuction can have a dramatic effect. Results are usually visible immediately, and improvement will continues as the swelling subsides during the first few weeks.
During the liposuction procedure, a small, thin stainless steel suction device, called a cannula is inserted through very small incisions in the skin into the fatty tissue. The fat is removed as the suction tube creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse and result in an improved contour. Liposuction is done on an outpatient basis and general anesthesia may be offered for patient comfort. The facial liposuction procedure typically last about one hour. The procedure may be combined with other cosmetic facial procedures.
A elastic chin strap will need to be worn for about 4-7 days. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medications, and most patients find that they quickly resume normal activities. The stitches usually removed in 5 to 10 days. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection.
Different sensations such as numbness or tingling are common for weeks after the surgery. In some cases, patients experience temporary weakness of the muscles around the mouth region. The weakness typically resolves as the swelling disappears. Occasionally, bruising and swelling take a few weeks to fully resolve.
Liposuction is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The cost of this procedure has many variables such as the geographic location and the expertise of the surgeon. Other factors that will affect the cost are the size of the patient, amount of time and effort required of the surgeon, cost of anesthesiologist's services, operating room fees, and laboratory fees. All of these factors will play a part in determining the cost of your liposuction procedure in Florida, but costs typically range from $2,000 - $7,000, depending on the area being treated and other items mentioned above. JONATHAN CRISS M.D. will be happy to go over the costs in detail during the pre-op visit.
